     Duties and responsibilities:

    Assist in monitoring the human rights situation in assigned duty station in Darfur;
        Assist in collecting and analyzing human rights indicators, including gender-specific indicators;
        Assist in conducting human rights capacity-building activities and in developing and implementing human rights training programmes;
        Assist in Administration of justice and transitional justice matters
        Assist in drafting correspondence and mainstreaming  human rights issues into political, humanitarian and economic efforts and programmes;
        Contribute to integrating gender perspectives with specific attention to issues related to women and girl children within all assigned human rights activities;
        Assist in the logistics and administrative aspects of projects assigned by supervisor.
        Strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time to work with international volunteers and staff to enhance her/his own capacities and skills.
        Perform other related duties defined by the direct supervisor.

 

متطلبات الوظيفة:


      Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:  A minimum of a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) preferably in Law, international relations, political science, social sciences, or another discipline related to human rights.

                                                                                                                                                              

Experience:  Three years of progressively responsible work experience in Human Rights or experience closely related to the field of Human Rights, at national and/or international levels.

 

Language:  Excellent command of spoken and written English and fluency in Arabic and other Sudanese languages.

 

Other Skills:

 

    Strong situational analysis and report writing skills.
    Ability to communicate and articulate ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner.
    Demonstrated effective organizational and coordination skills and the ability to carry out duties in an efficient and timely manner.
    Good knowledge of Darfur political and human rights situation will be an advantage.
    Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team of international and national staff.
    Demonstrated ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office suites – Word, Power-Point and Excel. Knowledge of other UN supported software is desirable but not mandatory.
    Valid driver’s license and demonstrated ability to drive manual gear 4x4 vehicles.
    Affinity with, or interest  in, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development and the UN System;
    Sound security awareness

    Flexibility: adaptability and ability to live and work in hazardous and remote conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, and to operate independently in austere environments for protracted periods, to include possible travel within the Mission area; willingness to transfer to other duty stations within the Mission area as necessary;
    Genuine commitment towards the principles of voluntary engagement, including solidarity, compassion, reciprocity and self-reliance;

National United Nations Volunteers Conditions of Service

 

National UN volunteers do not receive a salary for their services. Instead they are provided with a volunteer living allowance (VLA) that is intended to cover basic living expenses. In Sudan, the VLA is equivalent to US$710 per month. This modest allowance enables the volunteer to live in basic, adequate and safe conditions thereby reflecting the volunteer spirit of the assignment.

 

The UNV contract will be issued initially to 30 June 2016 with possibility of 12-month extensions depending on mission requirement and performance of the volunteer. National UN volunteers are covered by health, life, and disability insurance. Other entitlements are provided per the National UN Volunteer Conditions of Service.
